Our bodies work best in a slightly alkaline environment. Unfortunately dairy (which is not allowed), meat and nuts, along with stressful living habits, can have an acidic effect on our body’s pH balance. Here are some suggestions to help:
- Drink warm water (purified water, of course) with lemon into it first thing in the morning.
- Drink lots of purified water all day (six to eight 8-oz. glasses are good!).
- Eat plenty of veggies, which are good alkalizers.

Hello! I bought your book and really enjoyed it. I was wondering, do you have any tips for someone who is forty three and started skipping periods recently? I feel so frustrated! I was diagnosed with endometriosis stage four, had two surgeries, my husband and I want a baby to love more than anything, and now I’m skipping periods. The only way for me to bring on the period is to take progesterone suppositories for ten days.
Do you think this is normal for someone who is forty three? If I stopped drinking pepsi and my high sugar diet, do you think it would help bring my cycles back to normal?
If you have any advice or suggestions for me, I will do them! I intend to give up the Pepsi and high sugar diet this weekend!
Thank you so much! Hope to hear from you! (contact info removed)

Hi, Maria!
Great to hear from you. I am so sad that you’re feeling frustrated, though it’s understandable. Wanting a child and not being able to have one can cause tremendous stress, depression and/or frustration. I recommend Dr. Alice Domar’s book, Conquering Infertility, to help with some of the mental-emotional “side-effects” of coping with fertility issues.
Re: your periods, I would talk to your fertility doctor to better understand why this is happening.
Re: your diet, processed sugar is absolutely one of fertility’s enemies, and although I know it’s hard to give up if you have a sweet tooth, if you’re trying to conceive and having trouble, it’s really important! Pepsi is loaded with sugar among other additives. Giving it up, along with other items containing processed sugar, will absolutely improve your reproductive health! It’ll be one of the best things you can do.
I know it will be hard, so I have a couple of suggestions: take a week or two to simply cut back on the Pepsi. Then replace it with another healthy beverage, such as soda water (carbonated), or better: herbal teas.
For the sweet tooth: I recommend using the herb Stevia (see my blog on this: http://fertilekitchen.com/blog/search/stevia). You can even bake with it! I also recommend snacking (in moderation) on fruits, raisins and dates, which all have natural sugar sources.
Hope this helps! Wish you all the best.
