Chiropractic Care for Fertility

December 6, 2010 by Cindy Bailey

Most people don’t usually consider chiropractory as a way to aid fertility, but by optimizing your health through chiropractic methods, it can indeed help one get pregnant! I am honored to have Dr. Jennifer Rozenhart, DC, of Rozenhart Family Chiropractic in San Jose, CA, share how chiropractory can help you conceive. Here is her guest blog:

MY CHIROPRACTOR GOT ME PREGNANT
Infertility affects more than 6 million women and their partners in the United States, and many resort to fertility drugs and therapy. Fortunately, drugs and medical treatments to increase fertility are not the only option. Recent research suggests that chiropractic care can help those struggling to conceive because spinal misalignments may be causing nerve problems that trigger the hormonal imbalance. Chiropractors are the only ones who can analyze, find and correct subluxations in the spine.

Women come into our office looking for relief from back pain, neck pain or headaches. While chiropractic care does help relieve pain, its biggest benefit is to restore the proper function of the nervous system . If we discover that there are subluxations in the spine leading to the reproductive organs, an appropriate care plan would be to adjust the spine to correct the subluxation pattern. Care plans vary in length depending on many factors including, condition of the spine and how long the subluxation has been present. You can think of a subluxation like a stain in your carpet. Depending on how deep the stain goes and how long it has been there will help determine how quickly we can get the stain up.

Because chiropractors work with the central nervous system, we can affect many different systems including reproduction. If a woman has a subluxation, or communication problem, in her nervous system it can radically affect how the organs function. By clearing out any interference to the body’s optimal function it allows the body to do what it is designed to do- whether that’s healing, breathing properly, blood pressure normalizing, or making a baby!

One study revealed that 14 out of 15 infertile women got pregnant with chiropractic care. Is this a cure for infertility? Certainly not, but for those struggling, it is certainly a safe, non-invasive and gentle option that should be explored.
